"Nothing is meaningful as
long as we perceive only separate fragments. But as soon as the
fragments come together into a synthesis, a new entity emerges,
whose nature we could not have foreseen by considering the fragments
alone." - Piero Ferrucci 1982
Psychosynthesis sees people as whole beings with minds, bodies,
emotions and souls or spiritual connections to others and the universe.
Our wholeness is found in recognising, accepting and integrating
both wanted and unwanted sides of ourselves and our lives. Psychosynthesis
also recognises that we are not ‘islands’ but that we
are interconnected with people and environments, as well as past,
present and future social, cultural and physical realms. Within
us all there is also a unique centre, a core ‘self’,
which does not judge or reject any part, but can co-ordinate and
synthesize the many aspects of who we are, if we allow ourselves
to connect with this ‘self’.
All of these concepts and ideas are open to individual interpretation,
offering a map which, like any, is a representation but not the
reality, so there is no fixed ‘truth’ about humanity.
We can each aim to recognise and connect with our individual purpose
and journey, finding meaning within the broad framework of psychosynthesis.
The journey may not follow a straight line, nor move us up in a
linear progression, but it will lead us to greater awareness of
our potential, perhaps in cycles or layers of experience. It is
a process, and an act of faith and courage to engage with this journey.
